Welcome to Simpson County and The SCDF

SIMPSON COUNTY is situated in south central Mississippi – “the Gateway to the Piney Woods Region.” We are halfway between Jackson, the state capital, and Hattiesburg, the home of the University of Southern Mississippi.

Our major cities are Mendenhall, the county seat, and Magee. According to the 2010 U. S. Census, the 50 mile radius around the City of Magee contains 824,707 persons or approximately 28% of the state’s total population.

Simpson County is home to a campus of Copiah-Lincoln Community College and is active in the Co-Lin Regional ACT-Work Ready Communities project.

Simpson County is in the heart of a multi-county region bordered by three interstate highways: I-55 to the West, I-20 to the North, and I-59 to the East; the county is traversed by U. S. Highway 49, connecting the area to the Port of Gulfport.

Simpson County is also traversed and served by Canadian National Railroad.

Jackson Evers International Airport is within an hour’s drive, and the Port of Gulfport is within a two hour’s drive.

In addition to numerous retail and other development opportunities in Simpson County, the Simpson County Economic Development District offers the Simpson County Business Park at Magee and the Simpson County Industrial Park at Mendenhall, which are administered by the Simpson County Development Foundation.
